Out of the woods and into the Woods
This week we are back on our feet. Still a bit of a snotty nose (Mark) and cough (Doug and I), but out of the woods as far as feeling horrible! We spent a few hours in the bush and boiled down a gallon of maple syrup...yummy! We still have some left from last year so we are well set. This year the sap ran really well and Doug is going to plug the trees soon. Today it is very rainy so we will not be able to boil for the next few days. What a warm peaceful day we had yesterday. We did not call friends or family to join us as we were still not sure if the cold/flu has moved out of our systems. The process is much more anxiety provoking with a two year old around the fire! Mark is very good and knows "HOT" so he is cautious, but still needs watching! He spent the afternoon making "fish soup" (Little Bear's favorite), out of an old coffee can, water, twigs, dirt, grass and leaves! Mmmmm yummy! We took turns eating the delicious soup with a stick. Son I still remember making mud pies myself and yes it is still just as much fun! Daddy plans to take Wednesday off to boil again. We will have lots of pancakes this winter.
