Curse of the Citizenship Card and US Visa application

So here is the problem....the process for Mark's Citizenship card is going to take a total of nineteen months. I assume the process takes so long since they would have to research his background (abandoned at birth)and all of his family (none have come forward in two years) in China to ensure that there are no criminals who may threaten the security of our fine nation. In order to attend his cousin's wedding in Florida, I have been informed by the US boarder security that I have to have a US Visa as Mark has a Chinese passport and they will not recognize his Permanent Residence card. Evidently this two foot high, two year old Ninja is a threat to the Homeland security of the United States of America. So we are forced to pay the $140 US and book an appointment at the US consulate in Toronto (add another $100 for gas here) and travel there to get a Visa. The Canadian government will not speed up the Citizenship card, despite appeals to every government office and appeals to our local member of parliament so that all we would have to do is get a Canadian passport. Citizenship and Immigration say they would expedite the process if someone had died. So unless someone will conveniently off themselves at the time of the wedding.....we are stuck. The US consulate says that the process can take three to six months for the application to be sent but if you pay, book an appointment and then ask for the application to be processed quickly they may be able to do this. Now let us educate you on the nightmare of the US on line VISA application forms!!! After completing one section of the form, it tells me that I have to submit another number (different form) before I can go any further. This form requires you to upload a photo, many of which they simply reject. Here is the only photo that I could get Mark to look at me without blinking. I HATE digital cameras because of the three second delay. What you see is not what you get and I had to take sixty two photos of Mark up against the kitchen cupboard to get this one. Here is praying that they will accept it. We may get to Florida the end of May for the wedding but man how can one little guy be such a threat to the great UNITED STATES OF AMERICA...after all he, by being Chinese holds trillions of dollars of US debt so he should be able to visit there for free!

Hate to tell ya, but be prepared that they might reject this one too. Any government photos have to be stamped and taken by a professional photographer, showing that the photo wasn't altered in any way. Hopefully they do accept it for you, if it's for a US visa, it' has to be 2"x2" with a head size of 30-35 mm from crown to chin. He's got a nasty shadow behind his left ear that could be cause for rejection as it could change the shape of this head when the photo is scanned or emailed.

Thanks Renee but the application is on line and yes you do have to "submit" a trial photo that they review and then decide if it is acceptable. They do not require the photo to be taken by a professional...just has to be compatible with their site. I did upload the image and it is accepted as per their guidelines. They rejected about six of the ones I uploaded and put through the trial and finally they accepted this one!

Well just FYI...when we went to Toronto after waiting in line for about three hours the guy did reject the photo because of the cupboard door knob that is showing. I had to carry Mark down two city blocks to a variety store that would take visa photos. What a pain in the arse and why the h did they not tell me at the beginnig of the three hour wait!!! They checked my paperwork about six times before I had got to that point! Damn Yankees!!
