All we got for Christmas is lucky number 14....a purebred Bull!...Meet Mike!
Look at the lovely ladies waiting in anticipation of our new arrival. Daddy and Mommy decided that the herd was big enough now to warrant our own bull. So this past summer we went shopping for the best bull that we could find and of course....afford. All of the cows were bred with artificial insemination this past year but for years into the future we are going to have our very own testosterone loaded lucky Number 14....aka "Mike"...named by our beloved son after the Monsters Inc. Mike Wazowski. He is lucky because after we looked at the herd and him in particular back in July, we said that we would come back before the castration round up and make sure that he was the one we wanted. He was still the fore running choice over another one who seemed to slightly outgrow him in size but did not have some of the other attributes. So Mike was the one we purchased from John McNeil of Barra McNeil farms in Dutton. He seemed to stand out from the rest because of his short, thick neck, curly head, straight back, laid back quiet disposition and...yes...well the obvious attribute that you look for in a bull from the rear view! Yep..."Mike" is the man to take our herd forward. All of this is lost on Mark who quite frankly just wanted to go someplace warm! I must admit the photos were not the best because the camera seemed to fog up with the cold as well. So Mike has settled in quite nicely with the ladies, Mark is once again warm and Momma and Daddy have invested in the next stage of our farming efforts. Mike 'ol boy...do your job and you will have a long and healthy life on this farm. Casper my other bull lived to the good long age of sixteen years and even after he passed away I had beautiful white calves the following spring! Mark you should show more interest in Mike, since he is likely going to fund your university education!
