Fishing Derby Days!

Today we had the opportunity to take the kids fishing for the first time!  The local marina has a sponsored fishing derby for the kids each year and thus we decided to sign the kids up.  The local effort is supported by the OPP, Lions Club, Canadian Tire and Bob Izumi.  The gifts and prizes are well worth the effort of attending and every kid gets some amazing loot.  Seriously...they hand out some quality fishing rods and reels!  Of course the gifts are age appropriate and safe for the little ones so they are encouraged to take up fishing as a relaxing past-time.  Here we are having a blast.

The M&M's having fun waiting for Daddy to get everything set up.  Mark is holding on to his fishing license because he is a follow the rules kind of kid!
Here Daddy is getting all the lines into the water, after putting the worms on for everyone...his job for sure!
They are patiently waiting and hoping to catch those fish.  Momma's job is keeping everyone out of the lake.  Apparently last week someone's Grandpa had their grandson fall in and Grandpa dove in to make the save but of course he could not scale the sheer sheet metal break wall and had to be pulled back to the boat launch on a life ring! I was making sure that was not going to happen to this family.
I could not resist taking a few photos of our cover girl resting on the sidelines.
As with all fishing there is lots of time to just talk...so Mark was all questions and observations about the fine art of fishing.  Mark skunked us all and caught the only fish of the day...a very small gobi that we put back into the water to "grow bigger".  No fish soup for us today...Momma could not be happier.
The kids had fun and Mommy and Daddy just sat and had a nice peaceful afternoon.  Hurray for fishing derby days!
