Those who should be remembered...Uncle Bob!

Uncle Jerry with Uncle Bob at our wedding June 4, 2005
Daddy is hurting as he has suffered a great loss!  Beloved Uncle Bob passed away quietly in his sleep on Aboriginal Day, after a short illness following a fall at the age of 86 years.  Uncle Bob was instrumental in influencing Daddy as he was growing up.  In his quiet way he demonstrated how a man should be.  Uncle Bob never married as he loved to hunt and fish and did not think that lifestyle would be fair to a wife or family. He chose instead to support Doug's Mother as she struggled to raise ten children by herself!  Daddy says that Uncle Bob was a quiet man and never said anything derogatory about anyone.  If someone was making him angry, he would simply say "Well, I better get going" and would get up and exit the situation.  He was a kind, generous and gentle soul who worked hard. I will always remember how sweet it was when he pushed Mark on his rollator walker at Doug's Dad's funeral.  The simple joy of a child in that situation eased the sadness and made everyone feel better.  I am sorry I did not know this man well but even more sorry that he will not be a living memory for our children.  As Doug was taking the hay bales off the field yesterday he looked over and saw this deer antler lying on the ground on top of the feather (either hawk or eagle).  Is this a coincidence?  A simple happening of chance?  No way!  As you know, I do not believe in coincidences!  Thank-you Uncle Bob for sending this comfort to Doug.  He is spending quiet moments remembering all of the times you fished and hunted together.  The many times in the camp over the years, the conversations, the joking and the camaraderie between you.  You will be missed but your memory will be shared with our children so that they will be able to know you as the wonderful person, and the genuinely good man that you were.  Go and rest in peace!  "Bob's your Uncle" which derives from "all is bob"..." ie. "everything is safe, pleasant and satisfactory".  You have written a wonderful story of a life well lived!

Our condolences to all of you with this sad loss. By the way you describe this father figure, I have to say that it sounds like you are describing Doug. Clearly Bob's generous and kind spirit has inspired Doug to be the same. One cannot appreciate enough the impact that good people make in our lives. Hope that the feelings of grief are gradually replaced with the many fond memories you have of this man.
Please send our love to your precious children...they are both very fortunate to also benefit from the love that Uncle Bob, perhaps not first hand but then the residual effects of that love.
Greetings from the vanB gang!
